Magi, Him, and us!

"A cold coming we had of it,
Just the worst time of the year
For a journey, and such a long journey:
The was deep and the weather sharp,
The very dead of winter."

T.S. Eliot starts by speaking the words of Lancelot Andrewes, a 17th Century divine, who spoke on the dangers the Magi faced in his Nativity Sermon in 1622. Eliot, in his middle age, needed a recluse from his hardship, confusion, and drudgery. He converted to Christianity, and confirmed his catholic faith in the Church of Engla… Continue

Role of Local Health Systems in India.

In pre-independent India, the Bhore Committee was one of the committees set up for the new Indian Government in making to make plans for the country's development. The health Committee was to study health problems and suggest the most appropriate health care system for the country. At that time allopathic system coexisted with homeopathy, ayurveda, unani, and siddha systems of medicines. There were many local healers in rural areas practicing traditional medicine. It was not a moneymaking busine… Continue

Pedestrian Chronicle

The walk, the click of my heels and the thoughts that melted like old icecream into milk, took me home. We saw into each other's eyes, my shadow and I. The afternoon high was lowering itself to a simmer, still severely toasting foreheads. I drew out a small camera and decided to see the world move, spin and happen. With the feeling of owning the world, a part of it, with every image and thought that transpired in the time being the few minute walk seemed an hour. An eon long journey!
Let this si… Continue

The VLR Morning

To be sure that your stomach doesn't start growling and grumbling eat your breakfast. However, circumstances and situationspersuade one to skip meals just because food access is not ready enough to grab. Chennai local railway stations do not give you the option of catching trains as an excuse for such impeccable crimes to your stomach and day. The Vegetarian Light Refreshment stalls, in most of the stations, provide one and everyone with good, warm, light, and healthy food and eating conditions.… Continue

Water Crisis.

~Water~

It is our right to use, duty to conserve and crime to exploit.

In 1995, the vice-president of the World Bank, Ismail Serageldin predicted an acute water shortage for the new millennium: "If the wars of this century were fought for oil, the wars of the next century will be fought over water."
Water is the essence of life. It is perhaps the most basic resource: it is essential for our survival, crucial for relieving poverty, hunger, disease and critical for economic use. Water is… Continue

Hello Samyuktha. Hope you enjoy the site and put some of your work on here. I am a big fan of India and have travelled in your neck of the woods. I chose my thumbnail because it reminded me of wandering Indian cows found in unexpected (to me!) places. Liz
